The Role of a CMO at a large EMR Vendor – Dr Betty Rabinowitz – Nextgen Healthcare – 061

Software that supports EMR needs to change and evolve at the same pace as medicine. Getting clinicians on the front lines the tools they need to make decisions is a team effort. On this episode, Shahid and I sit down with Dr. Betty Rabinowitz to talk about her new position as CMO at NextGen and how her team plans to improve the lives of those who practice medicine and those they care for.

6:25 Should physicians be building software, advising the product team, or treating patients? Which physicians fit best into these roles?

9:03 The 3 tiers of tech-savvy clinicians. How do we ensure all voices are heard?

11:04 One of the main roles of a CMO in a software company is as a skilled guide who can filter the signal from the noise.

13:45 The most important focus for any med tech company: What’s best for the patient?

17:10 Managing clinicians’ expectations of EMR.

19:24 Putting value-based population health into a fee-for-service EMR. Is being too early bad for business?

37:50 Are physicians ready to see behind the marketing curtain?
