Jason Lesandrini joined Wellstar Health System in 2015 to lead the Ethics Program and was appointed WellStar’s assistant vice president of ethics, advance care planning, and spiritual health in February 2018.

In his current role, Jason provides leadership and resources to promote ethical behavior and decision-making aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the health system. He is focused on building capacity through ethical decision-making and the development of health system staff. In addition, he provides strategic direction and planning for language access services, spiritual health, and advance care planning.

Jason is a faculty member for the Physician Assistant Programs at Mercer University (Atlanta Campus) and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Atlanta Campus). He received a Master of Arts degree in philosophy from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Michigan State University. He is a Certified Healthcare Ethics consultant and a Leadership Professional in Ethics and Compliance. He is board-certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow.

Here in Episode #119, Jason starts our show by reminding us to lead with our values. He teaches us that we can achieve our goals simply by doing the right thing. Jason gives us a great overview of his career background and foundations in philosophy. He connects the dots between healthcare ethics and quality excellence. Jason officially invites quality people into the discipline of healthcare ethics.

Jason shares a story where he learned that language matters; and how that moment transformed his entire career path. He reveals his mindset around building a team of humans. He highlights how great leaders also focus on off-boarding team members. Do or do not, but Jason convinces me that there is no trying when it comes to being an ethical leader. He inspires each of us all to flex our moral muscles. Jason shares plenty of examples of the growing trends of ethical leadership in the healthcare space. He artfully connects the dots between healthcare regulation and ethical standards; and closes our show by motivating us to take a chance!
