241 – Everyone has the right to high-quality palliative care. Dr Rachael Cvejic, UNSW Sydney

Intellectual disability shouldn’t limit one’s access to palliative care.
Dr Rachael Cvejic is a registered psychologist and early-career researcher with a wide range of research interests, including neuropsychology and neuropsychiatric disorders.

The Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) champions the right of people with an intellectual or developmental disability to the same level of health and mental health care as the rest of the population.
In this episode, Pete and Rachael explore the difficulties that persons with intellectual disabilities encounter, particularly when it comes to obtaining healthcare and other services. They also look at how this relates to palliative care in particular, how well-equipped the healthcare workforce and system are to support it all and what role technology can play in improving those things.
This episode refers to a subject that certainly needs more attention. You will hear about the barriers that prevent people with intellectual disabilities from receiving palliative care, the role that technology might play, the educational needs of healthcare professionals when it comes to caring for the intellectually disabled. This episode also covers the importance of communication inclusion for the intellectually disabled and much more.
