Charlene talks with Kay Kennedy and Susan Campis, two of the three authors of Human-Centered Leadership in Healthcare: Evolution of a Revolution (Lucy Leclerc was unable to attend). The book encourages leaders to focus on self-care and mindfulness as a way of improving their ability to care for patients and staff. Kay, Lucy, and Susan are all nurses who have held leadership positions in healthcare organizations in addition to performing research on human-centered leadership. Together, they run uLeadership, a leadership development company that hosts workshops and other services to help nurses grow as leaders. Barriers to Healthcare for LGBTQ Populations w/Austin Nation [Rebroadcast]

Elyse talks with Dr. Austin Nation, professor at Cal State Fullerton and Clinical Administrative Supervisor at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. Austin presented a study at ACNL’s recent annual program in February exploring healthcare access and experiences for LGBTQ individuals living in Orange County. Elyse and Austin talk about barriers LGBTQ+ individuals face when it comes to receiving healthcare and mental health services, what kinds of competencies healthcare providers need when assisting LGBTQ+ patients versus heterosexual or cisgender patients, and how Nurse Leaders can learn more about these populations and improve the level of care they receive. Cultivating Resilience w/Tiffany Inness

Charlene talks with Dr. Tiffany Inness DNP, MSN, RN, RNC-NIC. Tiffany recently completed her DNP in Executive Healthcare Leadership and is now a 2023 Human Resources Leadership Fellow at Stanford Children’s Health, where she also serves as co-chair of the CNO Advisory Council. Tiffany has extensive leadership and project management experience, previously completing a Performance Improvement Fellowship, also at Stanford, as well as serving as the Director of Nursing Informatics for the United States Department of Defense. They talk about Tiffany's remarkable journey to becoming a nurse leader and how resilience played a crucial role in her career. They also discuss how leaders can cultivate resilience as a skill in their teams and how this can benefit patient outcomes. ACNL in Action is the podcast for anyone who wants to learn more about nursing, leadership, and everything in between. Presented by the Association of California Nurse Leaders, this podcast will introduce listeners to some of the most influential healthcare leaders in California and beyond.

Charlene Platon, MS, RN, FNP-BC, is Director of Ambulatory Nursing at Stanford Health Care and Chair of the ACNL Communication and Voice Committee.

Charlene’s overarching goal as a healthcare leader and nurse innovator is to discover new and creative solutions to improve care delivery and operations. She is passionate about utilizing innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration to address organizational challenges, transform healthcare, and empower nurses.

Founded in 1978, ACNL has spent over 40 years helping nurses advance their professional practice through continuing education, networking, and scholarship opportunities.
