Dr. JoAn Monaco: More Than Skin Deep, Thriving as a Plastic Surgeon
Dr. JoAn Monaco is a native New Yorker trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery with advanced fellowship training in aesthetic surgery. Her practice focuses on facial, breast, and body rejuvenation. She also served as the Program Director of the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship for seven years, training up-and-coming plastic surgeons in facelifts, rhinoplasty, eyelift surgery, and all breast and body contouring surgery.
We discuss her journey as a woman in the male-dominated specialty, Plastic Surgery. She talks about her work mentoring medical students interested in becoming surgeons. She shares her tough experiences as a surgical resident and plastics fellow, and how she is working to change the culture of surgery and plastics.
