330: Growth with Wendy Schofer M.D.

Something the healthcare industry as a whole needs is growth. We need to evolve in the way we speak to our patients, how we approach diagnostics, and the way we label conditions. Wendy Schofer is a pediatrician who specializes in working with overweight children and she is at the forefront of that need.

Our kids are not broken. But when we label them as overweight and obese, we are sending them the message that they are. So many children these days are hyper focused and aware of their weight and are considering dieting.

They are surrounded with the message that weight is highly important and that those who weigh less are better than those who weigh more. Our children see and hear everything that we do and say. We all need to grow in the way that we approach health.

Listen as we chat about raising children, better ways to approach important health conversations, and why we need to stop putting labels on everything. Our kids need to go back to being kids. This is one step in making that happen.

“From the best of intentions that we as physicians are identifying in what’s going on, we are actually labeling that child as being broken.” Dr. Wendy Schofer
