Dr. Shannon McNamara: Getting Back to Homeostasis

This episode gets into the heart of what it means to be a doctor in the current US healthcare system. We talk about the physical, mental, and emotional risks and trauma we experience. We also discuss the amazing skillset physicians have, and how we can transform healthcare by coloring outside the lines. We discuss creative career options and balancing additional training vs understanding we’re lifelong learners that are capable of doing more without another residency or fellowship. We explore how values and boundaries may change over a career and inform how we can practice a fulfilling career.

Dr. Shannon McNamara is an Emergency Physician and Simulation Educator working in New York City. She is interested in applying the science of complex systems to how we can learn and even thrive in challenging circumstances.
