337: Solocast – Good Enough
What is good enough?
As I’ve started back into clinical practice, I find that my perfectionism keeps creeping back in. I get frustrated with myself when notes aren’t perfect and things don’t go just so. But, I’ve been working on my burnout triggers, so when I notice these things, I give myself grace and move on.
But this is also bringing up something that I still need to deal with. What is behind my perfectionism? For me it’s fear. It’s the fear of not being good enough or not doing a good enough job.
So I’m challenging myself to ask the question.
Because people don’t want to see the perfect doctor. They don’t want to see the doctor who is able to check all the boxes. They want to see the person who sees them, knows them, and that they trust to give them the best care humanly possible. HUMANLY possible.
You are good enough!
“You can make an impact without being perfect.” Dr. Errin Weisman

[03:17] Establishing a trusting relationship with a patient is more important than having a perfect chart.
[03:57] Good medicine to me is a listening ear, a compassionate word and giving your time.
[04:39] The goal is no longer perfection, it is good enough.
[05:03] You are good enough!
