Healthcare’s MissingLogic Podcast: How to Create a Vision for Your Professional and Personal Life

Do you have a vision for your life personally and professionally? In the work we do with leaders we often find they don’t have a clear vision for their life. Without a clear vision it’s difficult to feel personally aligned, to make mindful choices, or to know what actions to take. As Yogi Berra says, “You got to be careful, if you don’t know where you are going, ‘cause you might not get there”. You end up feeling frustrated, full of regret, and wondering “how did I get here?” In today’s episode, we are sharing with you how to create a clear vision for your personal and professional life, so you can be a TRU (Thriving, Resilient, Unstoppable) leader. Healthcare’s MissingLogic: Calling all Leaders! Work-Life Balance is Possible

You've probably heard that work-life balance doesn't exist. Or maybe you've tried to balance your personal and professional life, especially during these challenging times, but you feel like it's impossible to achieve. As leaders, we're taught to look at challenges and issues as problems to solve and we think that problem-solving is the logic we apply to all challenges we face. Are we right? The thing is, not every problem is solvable, and if you can't recognize that the challenge isn't a problem to solve, then you're going to fail over time. In this episode, we reveal that Work-Life Balance is possible and why you can achieve it as a leader. We also discuss why some problems are not solvable, what a polarity is, how they work, and how you can take a different approach to manage them. Inspiring Women with Laurie McGraw: When Truth Speaks to Power. Dr. Jen Peña on Integrity, Fierce Femininity, and Healthcare in Puerto Rico

Laurie McGraw is speaking with Inspiring Woman Dr. Jen Peña . It has been a few years since she left the White House. So many firsts…..the first Latina physician in this office …the first from Puerto Rico. Two administrations (Obama and Trump) and physician to the Vice President. A deep honor. A tremendous privilege. And your sworn duty. One that tested the very core of what you signed up for when you took the Hippocratic Oath. Personal beliefs sometimes severely tested and kept to oneself.  At the end of the day, you are just the help. And then it ends. Her work was not done. She was wronged (publicly) on the way out. The scars linger. But today, a brighter, stronger light shines on her enormous pride for a job well done. For staying true to ethical and moral principles. And in the words of her mentor – she showed them “how the skirt fit on the way out.”  Fierce. Today and recently, Dr. Peña has moved home to San Juan. She is on a mission to address the healthcare gaps and access issues that exist in Puerto Rico. Over 10,000 physicians left the island in recent years, making challenging issues only worse. Innovation with digital platforms and tools are keys to a better future, but this requires an understanding of culture to make them really work. Dr. Peña is bringing her disciplined army background with boots on the ground to deliver what matters most – quality outcomes. ***************************** Dr. Jen Peña served as White House physician under both the Obama and Trump administrations, and Physician to the Vice President of the United States. A former US Army combat veteran of 15 years, she is a digital and telehealth expert, clinical leader, board-certified internal medicine physician and directs the Vidalús free clinic of the Boys and Girls Club of Puerto Rico. Chief Medical Officer of Medaica, a digital diagnostics platform company. A fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and member of the American Telemedicine Association’s Advisory Group to Eliminate Healthcare Disparities and Inequalities. BS-Yale University. MD-University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Residency-Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Featured speaker and medical contributor for several TV and radio networks, and at various national, international, and virtual conferences on digital and telehealth, COVID-19 and Veterans affairs.  -| This episode originally aired on March 15, 2023 on Inspiring Women with Laurie McGraw. Healthcare’s Missing Logic: Seven Reasons to Claim and Share Power for Healthcare Leaders

In this episode, we talk about the seven reasons to Claim and Share Power and why it's essential for healthcare leaders. We know most emerging and evolving leaders have been in a time of uncertainty, and they don't know what the "new normal" is as everything seems to be in a constant state of change. As a result, they go with the flow, waiting for someone to provide direction because they don't feel worthy of their power or feel that exerting their personal power is a career-ending move. The thing is, no one can give you power because it doesn't come from an external source, and even if there is a power associated with your role or position, it will dissipate over time if you don't claim your own power. In this podcast, we talk about why it's important to leverage the Claiming and Sharing Power polarity and some of the negative consequences of not leveraging the tools to claim and share power. We also talk about how your personal and shared power can show up and some of the positive outcomes of leveraging this tension. The Nurse Keith Show: How to Be a Visionary 21st-Century Healthcare Leader

On episode 407 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Certified Executive Coach Ronnie Kinsey, BSN, RN, MBA about how to be a visionary 21st-century healthcare leader who can readily identify what's right, as well as what needs to change. Ronnie Kinsey, BSN, RN, MBA is well-credentialed as a seasoned clinician and healthcare leader with a breadth of experience in highly recognized academic and specialty medical centers, as well as in the corporate arena. Mr. Kinsey has made it his life mission to understand what is right with healthcare. Beyond events in early life calling him into a career in healthcare, he planned to experience working in several dynamic workplaces and well-developed healthcare systems in order to learn, grow, and make the best impact wherever possible. He is quick to share that he has had a fascinating career and an exciting life built around those opportunities in diverse geographic locations. Ronnie is eager to share valuable insights about the transitions that have affected the roles and responsibilities of nurses over time. He began his nursing journey with paper charting when computers were not nurses' concern. Observing the wave of electronic charting crashing quickly toward the clinical setting, Ronnie quickly signed up to be part of planning and launching these systems so that he could understand how he and his own nursing practice were going to be personally impacted by them, as well as how healthcare would evolve as a result. Having seen several public health emergencies over the course of his career, Ronnie has observed that many have involved a virus of some kind. From his perspective, COVID — coupled with short staffing, overwhelm at the bedside, divisive public beliefs about the pandemic, and increased administrative responsibilities laid upon the shoulders of hard-working clinicians — has by far been the single most disruptive event impacting nursing and healthcare since his career began. Ronnie remains optimistic regarding the opportunity to improve the nursing, clinician, and healthcare experience with an eye toward the goal of manageable value-based outcomes. He is focused on leadership and executive coaching that has the power to develop and support bold, informed leaders who can lead us on the path to sustainable solutions to the outsized concerns seen in healthcare and leadership today. Dr. Winters says healthcare is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous – and leaders must become adept at thriving in such situations.  Why Physician Autonomy? As organizations scale, agility is required. Trusting employees to make the right call based on their own judgment improves overall quality. Nuance and Compromise. Inspiring Women With Laurie McGraw: How these 3 CEO/Founders put on the calm, no matter what comes crashing at them.

Laurie McGraw is speaking with three Inspiring Women CEOs and Founders coming out of Hashed Health. Molly Moore, (Bramble Health), Leigh McCormack (Platypus), and Raelyn Wilson (Peer Supply). At the Vive 2023 conference I had the opportunity to speak with three CEOs and Founders who have all participated in the Hashed Health venture studio. Their companies have all been incubated in the Hashed Health venture studio. Even though they were on day two of pitching, pitching, pitching…they had the energy (maybe some exhaustion?) to sit down with me and discuss what they are finding in their current CEO roles. Is funding really that hard? (spoiler alert….it’s hard). What are the hard things about hard things? Even if you are expert, confidence can still be a thing. And yes, it IS lonely at the top. But they also surprise themselves. Areas where they might have agonized over a NO, today serves as just useful information as they move onto whatever is next. These incredible women are NOT particularly excited about being in a smallISH club. They aim to plow through the current numbers (ONLY 2.4% of available funding is going to women CEOs and Founders). The sooner this is yesterday, the better. They will also ask you to come along on this journey with them. Get out of your own head!! Just do it, please do it!! And recognize the resources and comradery (like they have with each other) is available. And through it all – the hard work, the chaos, the balance of trying to have it all… comes EQUANIMITY. Putting on the calm, no matter what comes crashing at you. You will enjoy this energetic, fun, and very informative episode!!! ***************************** BIOs Raelyn Wilson is the CEO and Founder of Peer Supply which is on a mission to transform the healthcare supply chain by unlocking the value of data and collaboration. Leigh McCormack is the CEO and Founder of Platypus which leverages the collective power of data and knowledge to democratize healthcare analytics. Molly Moore is the CEO and Founder of Bramble Health which provides a transparent provider marketplace. And allows you to configure and create networks instantly.  -| This episode originally aired on April 25, 2023 on Inspiring Women with Laurie McGraw. StartUp Health NOW: Facing the Music: Critical Lessons in Healthcare Leadership

Welcome to StartUp Health NOW, the podcast where we celebrate the entrepreneurs and innovators who are transforming health. What can music teach us about the confusing, inspiring, sometimes frustrating world of healthcare? According to Dr. Stephen Klasko, our guest in this first StartUp Health NOW episode of 2023, the answer is a lot. Dr. Klasko was the President of Jefferson University and CEO of Jefferson Health during the COVID-19 pandemic. He launched JeffConnect, a pioneering initiative in telemedicine, and grew Jefferson Health from three hospitals to 14. He’s the author of the new book How the Message in the Music Can Save Healthcare in America, in which he throws back to his roots as a radio DJ in order to help the reader think more creatively about the changes that need to take place in healthcare. Now, he’s getting involved in the startup scene through his work as an executive in residence at General Catalyst. We wanted to bring Dr. Klasko in for a special session with our Health Transformers because he’s solved healthcare problems at the highest level and understands just how interconnected this ecosystem really is. Bonus: he tells it like it is. The conversation, which took place in front a live audience of founders from the StartUp Health portfolio, was co-hosted by Elizabeth Dale, who worked closely with Dr. Klasko at Jefferson.
