Health Screenings Amid COVID-19 with Paul Limburg, M.D., M.P.H., Chief Medical Officer for Screening Unit from Exact Sciences

When COVID-19 led to routine care being postponed or cancelled, many patients lacked the ability to be seen for cancer screenings and other health concerns. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men and women. However, screenings for this type of cancer are well below targets, which contributes to colorectal cancer being the most preventable yet least prevented form of cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute.  During this podcast, you will hear an excerpt from a webinar, presented on June 18, 2020, where Paul Limburg, M.D., M.P.H., Chief Medical Officer for Screening Unit from Exact Sciences, spoke directly to colorectal screening being a priority, even during COVID-19.  This presentation was recorded during a webinar given on June 2020 and does not reflect any data gathered after that date. Howard Bright, Vice President of Patient Engagement on Leveraging Price Transparency to Foster Financial Health for Patients and Providers.

The Price Transparency rule is the new reality. Hospitals have less than 100 days to comply and are looking for resources to correctly meet requirements. Patients are demanding clarity on prices for healthcare services and the increased visibility that can drive competition and lower costs. While the regulation is an essential starting point, providers should move beyond the designated rules to create patient access solutions that solve for patient pain points and open the door to patient engagement opportunities and preservice payment options in conjunction with the required publishing of costs. Providers can meet the government requirements through an online consumer price shopping tool which can also serve as a useful outreach tool for attracting new patients. Fostering an environment of clarity, responsibility, and enablement can move the opaque healthcare financial environment to one of transparency and trust, and a pre-service financial experience contributes to improvements in financial health for patients and providers.
